Senior Marine Systems Engineer – Electrical & Automation

Objectives:

The primary responsibility of the Marine Systems Engineer – Electrical & Automation (MSE-EA) is to perform design, engineering, and R&D tasks for various projects. The MSE-EA will report to the Department Head of Engineering or as directed. The MSE-EA will work in conjunction with the other members in the organization in the development and support of projects and products.

The MSE-EA shall provide expertise in any or all of the following engineering disciplines; Marine Engineering,  Marine  Electrical  Engineering,  Automation  &  Software  Development,  and  HVAC Engineering. The MSE-EA shall support all stages of the design process for various types of ships and all levels of construction and refurbishment.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Site surveys
    • Survey for purposes of quoting (Pre-Sales)
    • Survey for the purpose of verifying “as-built”
  • Act as the lead designer on HVAC Energy Savings Projects
    • Generate design reports that provide status updates to project management.
    • Generate Functional Specification (FS) /P&ID Documentation forming the basis for the Basic Design Package and Operational Philosophy
    • Generate drawings, reports, specifications, and calculations are required by the contracted scope of work
  • Oversee design deliverables are delivered according to contracted scope of work
    • Review and comment on drawings and specifications presented by internal and  external engineers and designers, considering adherence to FDS, operational needs and budget.
    • Ensure all selected designs and specifications comply with the safety and  environmental regulations established by the company and appropriate regulatory agency.
  • Maintain a current knowledge of marine industry equipment usage, design trends, design standards and rules.

Requirements:  “Preferred Qualifications”

  • A bachelor’s degree in one of the following engineering disciplines: Marine Engineering, Marine Electrical Engineering, Automation & Software Development, and HVAC  Engineering.
  • Strong competence in drafting and report writing.
  • Experience in:
    • Electrical Engineering/Design
    • Automation systems
    • Instrumentation
    • IT/Network Design
    • PLC Programming
    • Scada Programming
  • Ten (10) years of industry or technically related work experience from Ship Owner,  Shipyard, Class Society, Machinery Supplier, or Consultancy.
  • Proficiency to work in a team environment with rapidly changing priorities and perform multiple tasks with critical concurrent deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Self-motivated in anticipating, identifying, and acting on potential issues and problems
  • Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team
  • Demonstrated high level of accountability, integrity and ethics in the performance of assigned tasks
  • proficiency in computer use, including the following software programs:
    • MS Office Suite
    • Adobe Acrobat
    • AutoCAD
    • Rhinoceros, Autodesk Inventor or 3ds Max
    • Classification software – depending on Class society
  • Travel as required to support field, client or supplier (approx. 15% travel days per year)
  • Ability to work in shipyard conditions and construction sites
  • B1/B2 Visa Eligibility for entering the US
